ACS 2000 – New ABB Medium Voltage Drive
ABB has recently introduced a new medium voltage drive – ACS 2000. It is IGBT based five-level diode-clamped* voltage source inverter. Main product features according to the manufacturer documentation are:
- AFE 5-level IGBT rectifier with transformerless design** (direct-to-line connection is possible), two-winding input transformer is an alternative,
- full load/speed input power factor correction and regenarative braking ability,
- possible retrofit of existing MV motors** – acceptable output dv/dt and common mode voltage,
- 6000-6900V input voltage rating, 0-6900V output voltage rating,
- nine-level output voltage waveform,
- common DC-link,
- MV IGBT design,
- power range – 315-800kW (430-1090HP).
More detailed ACS 2000 information can be found in ABB MV drives section.
As always – I appreciate your comments and clarifications.
* – my conclusion on the probable topology (confirmation necessary) – 5-level diode-clamped inverter means that it consists of 24 IGBTs, 36 clamping diodes (assuming the same voltage rating for diode/IGBT) and 4 DC-link capacitors
** – transformerless design and possible retrofit of existing MV motors might mean use of CMVE (common-mode voltage elimination) circuit in a drive DC link section that could comprise special design common-mode choke, auxiliary choke (if necessary), resistor and active switches (if necessary)
